MFA Jean Asselborn in Prague on March 2, 2016

Publié le vendredi 04 mars 2016

At the invitation by the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Lubomir Zaoralek, the Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Minister for Immigration and Asylum, Mr Jean Asselborn, came to Prague for a work visit on 2nd March 2016.

Mr Asselborn was also received by the Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. In their meetings, the migration crisis and the EU’s response to it, as well as cooperation between the Benelux and Visegrad countries were discussed.

The Ministers agreed that the migration crisis needs a European solution and that the external borders of the EU need to be reinforced. A so-called plan B would be an admission of failure, according to Mr Asselborn, who also stressed that it is imperative to continue to support Greece who bears the heaviest burden of all EU Member States, and to enhance cooperation with Turkey, including in the framework of NATO.

The excellent bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Luxembourg and their strengthening were also a topic of the Ministers’ discussion.
